John Ambrose III has a passion for racing that began as a very young child watching his father, John (Junior) Ambrose, who was a pioneer in the early days of NASCAR Modifieds. He spent many hours at the racetrack with his father, and even more hours in his grandfather’s garage learning how to build a winning race car.
While still in high school, he began working on professional race teams and later worked for drivers/teams such as Bobby & Terry Labonte, Galles-Kraco Racing, Rick Crawford, Greg Davidson, Mike Alexander and others. His driving career included racing go-carts, modifieds, late models, and ASA stock cars. Although he left auto racing in 1993 to pursue other professional ambitions, his passion for racing never died, and his biggest regret was that he never reached his full potential on the racetrack.
In 2000 he joined the growing number of sim-racers who were able to enjoy the thrill of driving a race car while sitting at his computer. With this “hobby,” he began racing in various sim-racing leagues, and he became well-known in the online sim-racing community. His real-life driving experience and under-the-hood knowledge gave him a clear advantage developing winning setups which made it difficult for most sim-racers to compete with him. With the development of more accurate and sophisticated simulation software’s, he was able to begin competing with other drivers at comparable skill levels, which often put him in races with professional drivers.
Through sim-racing, John developed a relationship with a professional driver and car owner who asked him to help develop setups for his real world team, and this opened the door for John to work with teams in other series.
With his state-of-the-art custom motion simulator, he utilizes key data acquisition softwares to work closely with drivers, crew chiefs and engineers to develop setups customized for specific driving styles. He works behind the scenes modifying the setup after each practice, and even during the course of a race, to continually find ways to improve performance. He has worked with teams in the Grand-Am Road Racing Series (both GT and DP classes), the American LeMans Series and NASCAR.
John also offers one-on-one coaching services to help both professional and amateur drivers improve their driving technique and take their skills to the next level. Additionally, John is developing a high-tech driving workshop utilizing racing simulators to coach drivers in a small-group environment. John plans to offer his first workshop by fall of 2013.
